This strong black lad is Noduff Luxor formerly known in Ireland as Tir Chonaill. At the time of joining us he’d had only two trials at Derry and was a blank canvass for Jooles and Jason to work with. He was known in the kennel as Timone who, Jooles tells me, is a character in the Lion King which looks like some kind of weazle. This beautiful dog certainly doesn’t look like a weazle.

Timone put in a very respectable first sprint trial of 15.87 and showed great attitude. His trainer was impressed and hopeful for his career. Very sadly in his second trial he broke his hock at the first bend and couldn’t complete. When operating on him, the vet believed that the break was at the very bottom end of the scale of such injuries and that Timone might race again. We were therefore very patient with him after his pin was removed and gave him every opportunity to come back. He was forever up to fun, games and mischief in the paddocks but never able to cope with a full gallop.

With great sadness we finally took the decision to retire Timone in February 2023 and it was a great shame for us and particularly for him that he never got to race properly. He followed in the footsteps of Noduff Caesar who was also injured in his second grading trial and went to a premature retirement sofa.
